Construction Update: 29 Flatbush Avenue

29 Flatbush Avenue, another residential tower in Downtown Brooklyn, is now well above ground level. The future residential building will eventually rise 42 floors and 457 feet, making it one of the most prominent on the Brooklyn skyline–at least for now.

388 Bridge Street is rising just a few blocks away, as well as a laundry list of nearby residential developments. 29 Flatbush may make a mark for the next few years, but will likely be dwarfed by larger developments within a decade or so.

While Downtown Brooklyn is seeing a residential boom, the lack of commercial development is somewhat surprising. Residential is a necessary and welcome addition to the neighborhood, but it would still be nice to see more substantial commercial projects rising.

That should happen soon with the CityPoint development, which promises to drastically raise the bar in terms of height for Downtown Brooklyn as well as contribute much-needed density.
