Construction Update: 241 Fifth Avenue

The new 20-story condo building (per the WSJ) at 241 Fifth Avenue is nearing completion, with facade work coming along substantially since A Fine Blog’s update on the site one month ago. The building will only contain 48 residences.

The design of 241 Fifth is actually quite good, as the building maintains the Fifth Avenue street wall and sticks to a subdued facade. The two buildings to the project’s south could eventually be demolished and redeveloped as well, meaning that the southern side of 241 Fifth will likely be covered by a taller neighbor. Whether that happens sooner rather than later remains to be seen, but the YIMBY development map shows at least four other new developments within as many blocks.

Per the Curbed posting on 241 Fifth Avenue, the site’s old occupant was a stocky little modern monster. Luckily no tears were shed over the loss of that little eye-sore, and the new building is a definite improvement.
