Construction Update: 110 Madison Avenue

110 Madison AvenueConstruction begins on 110 Madison Avenue

110 Madison Avenue is now rising, and the extremely narrow lot will soon be home to a 17-story sliver building. No renderings have been released, but Kossar + Garry are the architects on the building permits — the space is too tight to allow significant creativity, which is good because the final product can’t be terrible, but bad because something stunning is also unlikely.

As long as the facade is pleasant, 110 Madison will be a welcome addition to the streetscape. With only 18 dwelling units — in addition to ground-floor retail — the building will certainly cater to the ’boutique-luxury’ segment of the market, which should translate into a nice exterior.

Zoning diagrams indicate each of the units will measure nearly 1,600 square feet, though with 17 stories and 18 units, two of the building’s eventual occupants will have to stoop to sharing the same floor. No date for completion has been announced, but given the project’s small scope, construction on 110 Madison Avenue should be finished sometime in 2014.
