Construction Update: 19 Park Place
Excavation for the 21-story sliver tower at 19 Park Place – aka the Tribeca Royale – is underway, and foundation work on the project looks like it should be starting shortly. Equipment is active on site, and there are a series of supports for the neighboring structures, which are old and semi-decrepit.
Designed by Ismael Leyva, the building won’t be contextual – but in this case, that is not a problem, as the aesthetics are creative and futuristic, lacking the absurdity that defines many forward-thinking projects. 19 Park Place isn’t a huge deviation from standard sliver buildings, but the use of balconies and the building’s strong curves do contribute to a spaceship-like appearance – and the tapered floor plates also add to the building’s height, though it still won’t be noticeable on the skyline.
Completion is slated for 2014, and 19 Park Place will have a total of 24 units – per The Real Deal, eleven of the units will be full-floor. The building’s location isn’t prime Tribeca, but it’s still Tribeca, and units will likely be priced in astronomical accordance.
