Designed by Studio Gang, the stunning glass facade at 40 Tenth Avenue is now complete. Described as a “solar carve,” the 12-story office building features a chiseled, gem-like curtain wall that was engineered to eliminate shadows.
76 11th Avenue, also knows as The Eleventh, has finally started to show itself. Construction began in the Fall of 2016, and YIMBY has been following its progress closely. Running the length of 11th Avenue between 17th and 18th Street, the site is one of the largest parcels of land to be developed since the recent surge of construction started along the High Line, and the latest photos from BIG and Tectonic show that the transformative project is finally beginning its climb into the West Chelsea skyline.
New renderings have been released for a proposed facade modification of the historic Restoration Hardware building at 9-19 Ninth Avenue. These images have been included in part of a proposal package submitted to the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and will be reviewed by the LPC later today. The Aurora Capital Associates owned site, in the heart of the Meatpacking District, currently features a steel screen-wall facade with art glass on the upper floors of the brick building. The new design, by Backen Gillam Kroeger Architects, is looking to bring a more symmetrical look to the structure through the renovation.
Yesterday, YIMBY featured a first glimpse at the plans for 76 8th Avenue, on the corner of 14th Street, at the crossroads of the Meatpacking District and the West Village. Today, we have the full rendering for the project, designed by Gene Kaufman, which will dramatically improve a corner that has long been under-built.
YIMBY last reported on 40 Tenth Avenue when new building applications were filed for the site, in November of 2015. Now, with demolition of an old three-story warehouse complete, construction on the office project is finally getting underway. The progress on excavation has been substantial, and piling and caissons are also beginning to appear.
