Construction Update: One57

Work is ongoing at Extell’s One57, where the new crane was installed last month – despite its re-appearance, glass remains stalled just below the tower’s pinnacle. Nonetheless, it still looks fantastic, dominating the Central Park skyline – especially in the above photos from YIMBY reader Scot, taken from the roof of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

After the Hurricane Sandy incident delayed construction, the building’s opening has been moved to 2014 – interior work has progressed while the facade has been stalled. One57 is just the first major skyscraper of the 57th Street boom, which will rapidly encroach; within the same block JDS plans to build a 900-foot tower, and Extell’s other neighborhood supertall – 225 West 57th Street – will rise one block to the west.

As expected, many of the buyers are investors, including the owner of the Winter Garden penthouse, which sold for more than $90 million.
