Permits have been filed for a six-story community facility at 2064 Boston Road, in The Bronx’s West Farms neighborhood. The site is close to the Bronx River, and surrounded by green space, which runs through the Bronx Zoo and New York Botanical Garden. The West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue Subway Station is two blocks away, serviced by the 2 and 5 trains.

Comunilife is responsible for developing the project. The company is a charitable business focused on providing culturally competent health and human services by means of affordable and supportive housing for a variety of at-risk communities.

The 60-foot tall structure would yield 47,470 square feet of space. Tenants will have access to offices, laundry, a lounge, computer lab, front desk and community room on the first floor and cellar. The remaining space is dedicated to 78 non-profit institution residencies, averaging 510 square feet apiece.

Manhattan-based OCV Architects will be responsible for the design.

Demolition permits were filed mid-October. The estimated completion date has not been announced.

Thanks for fresh details. (Hello YIMBY)

  2. I never knew what that building was for. I always thought it was someone mansion from a earlier time period. The whole neighborhood is being redeveloped. It’s good to see the progress that is being done. Going to miss seeing this mansion. With all the new developments I can’t imagine how much worst the subway stop will be during rush hour.

  3. 2064 Boston Road—-seems a shame to demolish such a lovely building.

  4. This neighborhood is going to be SO much better after all this redevelopment. The entire Bronx River south of the zoo is seeing an incredible transformation.

  5. The destruction of that fabulous mansion is truly grotesque, considering how few buildings like this exist in The Bronx. Why was it not landmarked? I certainly would trust any organization that thinks it’s a good idea to tear it down.

    Shame on them.

The site has a distinctive building on it. When they demolish the building the owners will have lost its sense of space or pride of place. The owners are are giving the neighborhood the “finger” by tearing down a perfectly good building. As they say, “There goes the neighborhood.”

  7. How terrible to tear down beautiful history for these new cheaply tasteless buildings that are popping up everywhere. The space housed thousands for over a century. I wonder if the board fought back, communilife struggles to maintain existing properties, what would make this any different? I am very sad to a piece of my childhood go,(I grew up next door),and worst to know that we couldn’t look for a development team from the borough to wk on it. This project is WRONG on so many fronts.

  8. Wow. As the First Female MC of Hip Hop Culture; I use to pass that historical dwelling everyday. I’d reside in the blue building (1075) located behind irbid spot. As a young teenager growing up in the 70’’s; no one ever really knew what beautiful piece of property was. All I can say is WOW
