Today YIMBY has the first rendering for a new residential development coming to 212 Wadsworth Avenue, in Upper Manhattan. The development is rising on the site of the demolished Wadsworth Avenue Baptist Church, which was purchased in 2015 for $8 million. Silverback Development has partnered with Caerus Group on the $47 million project.

Permits were filed in February of 2017, which show the 95-foot tall structure will yield 114,750 square feet within. 74,000 square feet will be dedicated to residential use, and 14,260 square feet will be occupied by a community facility. The church will be located in the basement, along with a lobby for the church and for residents. Tenants will have a laundry room and ground floor recreational space. 21 parking spaces will be included on site, to be used by tenants and the church. 98 rental units will be created, of which 29 will let as affordable for people receiving moderate incomes.

Theodore Hammer of Mancini Duffy is the architect of record. The facade is composed of a grid of square floor-to-ceiling windows, framed by what is likely either black metal panels or brick.

The site is four blocks away from the 181st Street subway station on Saint Nicholas Avenue, and seven blocks away from the 181st Street subway station on Fort Washington Avenue, serviced by the 1 and A trains, respectively. Hudson Heights is a residential enclave within Washington Heights, notable for its architectural examples of Art Deco and Tudor Revival.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: After I go, my comment will be showed.

  2. The Church winds up in the basement?? Wow..Religion versus Money, no contest.

  3. That’s not Hudson Heights. And good luck with the already overcrowded MTA elevators and trains up here.

  4. Down the hill is not Hudson Heights.

  5. This is absolutely NOT Hudson Heights. HH is located on the other side of Broadway.

  6. And The 1 train absolutely does not stop at 181st & Ft. Wash Ave.

Will there be conciderations for Police, FireFighters and military personnel at this location.

  8. I’m a YIMBY fan, but I’m losing hope with this effortless/careless writing. It’s like you want your readers to know you don’t care about being factual/correct. I’m going out on a limb here – is Andrew Nelson a millennial? Transplant? Millennial-Transplant?! (jk – kinda)

    • I think neighborhoods shift which is why we see some of the outcry. But oftentimes some of the info is based in press releases and developers will often state X when something is Y. Boundaries are not written in black and white in most locations, IMO.

“Developers will often state X when something is Y.” pronounced another way from Mr.Fedak: “Developers lie.”
