“The Standard” Residential Rentals Revealed in New Rochelle, New York

The development of a new 14-story residential high-rise has officially kicked-off in the downtown corridor of New Rochelle, New York. Located at 251 North Avenue, “The Standard” will partially repurpose an iconic, a historic, Neo-Classical structure that once housed daily newspaper The Standard Star.

On April 25th, project developer Cappelli Organization joined New Rochelle city officials in a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the forthcoming tower.

The new building will comprise about 87,000 square feet, with 112 rental apartments and approximately 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail area. The apartments, which range from 440 to 755 square feet, will be comprised of 13 studios, 92 one-bedrooms, and 7 two-bedroom units.

The Standard will also offer a full suite of luxury amenities, including a roof deck with outdoor kitchen and cooking area, a fitness center, flexible areas for business meetings or small gatherings, and a communal lounge equipped with a full kitchen, dining area, and entertainment.

Residents will also have access to an adjacent enclosed parking garage, as well as on-site bike storage.

The exterior of the structure will reportedly retain unique architectural elements of the existing façade as an homage to The Standard Star and the publications impact on the city of New Rochelle.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson called the groundbreaking an important step toward achieving the city’s vision of a walkable, vibrant, and diverse downtown that both honors history and embraces the future.

Since 1997, the developer has worked to revitalize the city and has delivered over two million square feet of residential, entertainment, hotel, retail and garage properties. Projects include New Roc City, a 500,000-square-foot entertainment center with a movie theater as well as a 70,000 square foot Stop and Shop.

According to Cappelli, The Standard is the beginning of a new development strategy in New Rochelle to establish smaller rental units targeted to Millennials.

“We are pleased to start our newest venture in downtown New Rochelle with The Standard,” said Louis Cappelli, Chairman and CEO of the Cappelli Organization. “The site of The Standard is an important in-fill parcel linking the New Roc complex to North Avenue. We have owned the site for years and now is the time for a creative project that will contribute new life to this strategically important area.”

Wow – those are some really small apartments! A little ridiculous, actually. And the prices will probably still be crazy as well. What we need are apartments STARTING at 755 sq ft, but reasonably priced. This sounds like a NYC-style apt building, but not in NYC!

  5. Are they considered low income housing
