Too many renderings come through that resemble the same mold of international style. Today, Citiscape Consulting has revealed an unusual design for a long-term care facility at 1508 Avenue Z in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. The post-war Japanese Metabolism movement, a style that integrated organic material and architecture, was what inspired the 16-story building’s distinctive look.

The exterior curtain wall will feature CO2-cleaning organic material. The building will be responsive to the sun as well, for the comfort of the occupants. The roof will have a water retention system for capturing stormwater and using throughout the building’s plumbing.

Permits for the building were filed in mid-July. The 188-foot tall structure will yield 49,700 square feet, with 3,130 square feet for a medical facility, 3,950 square feet for ground floor retail, and 42,620 square feet dedicated to residential use. 78 residencies will be created, averaging 546 square feet apiece. Open terraces will be included on the third, eleventh and rooftop floors.

SB1 Holdings LLC is responsible for the development.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: Only one in the world, I don’t forget because its strong point on design.

  2. An instant landmark I suppose. But why so few windows on a tower that presumably will have largely unobstructed views?

  3. More people to squeeze onto the narrow Sheepshead Bay Road station platforms.

  4. OLD MEN

  5. Pardon me for using this space: the design is fine, where is other guy who writes this line?

  6. More of this sort of thing!

  7. How on earth are they going to fit a tower that size onto a lot that’s only about 25 feet wide?

  8. The last picture (via Google Maps) is not the right one. It shows the North side of Ave. Z with odd house numbers.
The correct picture would be across the street on the South side of Ave. Z

    • The south side has buildings, so if it is indeed the vacant lot, maybe they got the address wrong?

      • The rendering shows the right location on the South side of Ave. Z.
The proposed building will be built in the narrow space next to the train trucks between Ave. Z and Sheepshead Bay Rd. And the last picture is still wrong…

  9. But the rendering does show it on the south side.
