Permits have been filed for a six-story residential building at 161 East 81 Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The site is six blocks away from the 86th Street Lexington subway station, serviced by the 4, 5, and 6 trains, and seven blocks from the recently-opened 86th Street 2nd Avenue subway station, serviced by the Q and R trains. Just four blocks away is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The building’s owner, Jong Mok Che, will be responsible for the development.
The 60-foot tall structure will yield 12,640 square feet, with 9,990 square feet dedicated to residential use. Five apartments will be created, with a duplex on the ground floor, and each of the others occupying a full floor. Units will average 1,990 square feet apiece, indicating condominiums. Residents will also have accessory storage and a residential lobby.
Vail Associates Architect will be responsible for the design.
Demolition permits for the existing five-story building have been filed. The estimated completion date has not been announced.
