Shadowed by the high-rise buildings surrounding Zuccotti Park, a sculptural rose has been permanently installed in the heart of Lower Manhattan. Titled “Rose III,” the 26-foot-tall floral structure, was created by German artist Isa Genzken and donated to Brookfield Property Partners by Lonti Ebers.

The sculpture is comprised of custom manufactured steel elements modeled after a rose the artist picked, which was then sculpted for development. The rose is meant to both challenge the inorganic textures of Lower Manhattan and compliment the slender sky-reaching structures that define the neighborhood.

Rose III joins a number of other monumental sculptures by Genzken including “Rose” commissioned and installed in 1993 at a private residence in Baden-Baden, Germany, with another edition permanently installed at Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. “Rose II” was Isa Genzken’s first public sculpture in New York and was installed at the New Museum from 2010 to 2013, after which it was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: New landmark and I can resolve it’s beautiful or not. Grower and towers.

  2. What happened to the statue of the man with the briefcase?
