Permits have been filed for a five-story mixed-use building at 228 Berry Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The site is six blocks away from the Bedford Avenue subway station serviced by the soon-to-close L trains. Twelve blocks away is the Marcy Avenue subway station serviced by the J, M, and Z trains. Brooklyn-based Cornell Realty Management is listed as responsible for the development, and today, YIMBY also has the first look at the design.

The 65-foot tall structure will yield 51,000 square feet within, with 27,300 square feet dedicated to residential use, and 7,750 square feet for commercial retail space. 40 apartments will be created averaging 680 square feet apiece, indicating rentals. Recreation space and bicycle parking will be included on the ground floor, with an outdoor terrace on the third floor.

IMC Architecture is listed as responsible for the design. The renderings reveal a masonry façade with brushed metal panels and several terraces. Curtain walls will create transparent storefronts for the retail shops.

  1. Please pardon me for using your space: Thanks to Andrew Nelson. Furthest from the front but beautiful.

  2. I’m aghast at the shocking originality of the architecture here!

Would it be so difficult for these people to make a few adjustments after copy/pasting the template?

  3. One thing thats visually groovy about thats there now is the faux-falling-sideways building set in behind the loading dock. If you have an interest in The Interesting… go to Berry at Grand and see it. Before they trash it. Literally “there goes the neighborhood”. If you’re well off financially… “thats progress!”
