New Rendering Reveal for ODA-Designed 531 Sixth Avenue, in Chelsea

Rendering of 531-539 Avenue of the Americas

New renderings of 531-539 Sixth Avenue show changes to the facade of the residential development, designed by ODA. Compared to renderings released in July 2018, the structure’s facade will now incorporate black and grey metal elements.

Located in Southern Chelsea, the assemblage of 531-539 Avenue of the Americas currently supports a vacant HSBC building and a low-rise residential structure with ground-floor retail.

The cubic, cantilevered massing of the structure is reminiscent of Rafael Viñoly’s office building at 61 Ninth Avenue, and incorporates private outdoor areas for a selection of residences on all sides of the building.

The forthcoming development will comprise 75,000 square feet. Retail area will span one cellar level and the ground floor. Residences are positioned on the building’s second through twelfth floors. Amenities are expected to include a roof terrace, a private garden, a fitness center, bike storage, and a communal lounge.

Back in 2016, YIMBY first reported on the completed sale of the assemblage to Gemini Rosemont Development, a Hong Kong-based investment firm. Today, it does not appear demolition of the existing property has begun and no information has revealed expected completion.

West 4th Street station seen in photo is in the Village, not in Chelsea.

  6. You’ve missed something here. The new renderings show the 4-story building at 539 Ave/Americas still standing whereas the previous rendering showed it gone. Did the deal to acquire that parcel fall through? This would mean the 6th ave frontage of this development is not as wide as previously proposed.

  7. Also disappointed to not see a much needed incorporated subway entrance removing the street stair. Why doesn’t the city require these things. Literally ever other world city would be taking the opportunity to remove the street stair.

Would it be possible to please include a cross street with all stories including an Avenue address like this one?

Actually, the entire assemblage has been demolished by now.

  10. The subway entrance is 14th St. The “1” is blocked in the photo.
