Back in January, YIMBY revealed some of the first renderings of Union Crossing, a new eight-story commercial project in the Port Morris section of the South Bronx. Today, the development team has returned with images of the building’s nearly completed interiors.

The former factory building, originally constructed in 1916, once served as headquarters for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, also known as A&P. Officially known as 825 East 141st Street, the 235,584-square-foot property was purchased in 2016 for $44 million from the National Equipment Corporation and is now in development by Madison Realty Capital, The Altmark Group, The Bluestone Group, and Galil Management.

Today, the structure contains over 280,000 square feet of office space and maker studios with floor spans measuring 45,000 square feet at each level. Designed by architects Woods Bagot as a series of flexible suites, the floor plans can be occupied in full or sub-divided into smaller components dependent on tenant requirements.

The building’s crowning penthouse measures 30,900 square feet and features elegantly fluted support columns, ceiling heights in excess of 20 feet, and oversized windows designed to facilitate the flow of natural light.

Future tenants will also have access to a 7,500-square-foot roof deck, bike storage, and a number of financing and tax incentive opportunities from the City of New York that are designed to promote commercial development in the South Bronx.

A retail corridor and several cafes will be open to the public on the building’s ground level.
