Installation of the reflective glass curtain wall on the northern elevation of 106 West 56th Street is approaching the final setback of the 27-story structure. The Perkins Eastman-designed boutique office building stands topped out at 403 feet tall and is being developed by private equity firm Savanna Fund, along with Hong Kong-based developer Atom Assets.

Photos show each setback accentuated with a strip of opaque metal paneling that subtly blends with the color of the envelope. When viewed straight on from across the street, the reflection of 111 West 57th Street can be seen in the building’s glass curtain. As work progresses on the northern face, the flat eastern and western elevations are being filled in with insulation and metal stud frames. Additional windows on the top corner floors of the eastern wall will give tenants more access to the morning light and wider views of Midtown. A metal grille covering the mechanical units will rest above the final office level and sit underneath a flat roof parapet.

106 West 56th Street is located just one block south of 57th Street, aka Billionaires’ Row, and three blocks from the entrance to Central Park. There are a number of subways nearby including the F train at the 57 Street station on Sixth Avenue and the N, Q, R, and W trains to the west on Seventh Avenue. The developers are aiming for LEED certification and will offer office layouts tailored to smaller-sized companies. The total rentable space will be about 90,000 square feet. Occupants on the upper floors will have views of Central Park and the supertalls of Billionaires’ Row.

106 West 56th Street should be finished sometime next year.

  1. The construction is very noisy and should not be allowed to proceed at night.
