CetraRuddy’s Two-Tower Development at 520 West 41st Street Set for Construction in Midtown West

An aerial rendering looking south at 520 West 41st Street.

Coming in at number 23 on our countdown of the tallest construction projects underway in New York City is 520 West 41st Street. YIMBY previously reported an exclusive rendering reveal for a possible two-tower mixed-use development at the Midtown West site, with the taller structure potentially rising 758 feet tall. Owner and developer Silverstein Properties called on CetraRuddy Architecture to create a pair of offset glass skyscrapers on the property near the edge of the Manhattan waterfront, and there have been a number of design changes over the past several years. Leeding Builders Group will be the general contractor.

The rendering above shows a large podium section with several high-floor ceilings of transparent glass panels. This could become commercial retail space. Below is what the site currently looks like.

520 West 41st Street sits immediately north of the entrance to the New Jersey-bound lanes of the Lincoln Tunnel and a couple of streets to the west of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

Hudson Yards is not too far of a walk to the south. The Jacob K. Javits Center is also in close proximity.

The site was once the home of a large low-rise Mercedes Benz showroom that was demolished four years ago. What is left today includes a sliver of a sub-level tunnel that has been partially exposed and a section of the ground-floor slab on the eastern end of the address. Most of the land has been excavated and sits behind a green construction fence. Silverstein Properties also made an earlier presence in the neighborhood with the construction of Silver Towers, a pair of twin glass residences diagonally positioned to the north across West 41st Street.

People familiar with the property told YIMBY that work could start in late 2020.

  1. Amazing how much space for even more towers still exists in Manhattan.

  2. They should be required to at least partially pay for the construction of a Flushing line subway station underneath. Why do we always have to subsidize the rich?

  3. From what I can tell there is no actual construction going on here and it sounds like you don’t have any information to the contrary either. This shouldn’t be on your list, it’s just a hole in the ground.

  4. The rich arent being subsidized. Everytime a new building goes up like this one and all the others, you immediately get PROPERTY TAXES. Then if the building is condominium you get individual unit property tax. PLUS you get people who now have to pay state and local taxes as well.

    • This is why we need Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren for President, This is why we have AOC and also this is why we need Scott Stringer for Mayor. We must Impose 70% Tax on the Wealthy, I have no Problem with high-rise buildings being built on empty spaces but we need 70% Tax on the Wealthy and Corporations.

  5. More crappy buildings we don’t need… Landlords and real estate speculators are destroying NYC

  6. Perfect to see this unused property for years finally being developed with opulent futuristic skyscrapers!! Unfortunately, the original 106th floor building plan fell through!!
Please Keep Politics Out Of Here!!
