Installation of the travertine stone and glass panels is continuing on the The XI, aka 76 Eleventh Avenue, Bjarke Ingels‘ twisting residential development along the Hudson River waterfront in Chelsea. The 36- and 26-story reinforced concrete towers stand immediately to the west of the High Line and contain a total of 236 condominiums and a 137-room Six Senses Hotel Resorts Spas, the first location in the United States. HFZ Capital Group is the developer of the 908,250-square-foot complex, while Omnibuild is in charge of the ongoing construction. Douglas Elliman is handling sales and marketing for the residences.

Photos from Hoboken and from along the High Line show the external progress on the curtain wall. The taller building is now mostly clad, while the shorter sibling that flanks the landscaped elevated park is quickly catching up. Both will have identical exterior finishes and will be joined together by a low-rise podium and motor courtyard.

The XI is among the latest contributions to the Chelsea waterfront skyline and adds to the eclectic mix of architectural designs from world-famous architects that have made their presence along the High Line, including Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Robert A. M. Stern, Thomas Heatherwick, Morris Adjmi, Rafael Vinoly, Frank Gehry, and Jean Nouvel.

Eighty-seven of the residential units will be designed by Gilles & Boissier, while 149 will be designed by Gabellini Sheppard. Prices are set to range from $2,575,000 to $14,500,000.

Construction has yet to begin on the ground-floor retail space that runs along Tenth Avenue between West 17th Street and West 18th Street. Views from the High Line show that foundations and the ground-floor slab are complete, and work above street level should start sometime later this year.

It’s somewhat unsettling walking by these buildings. Hopefully the detailing was carefully considered for rain drips.

Actually I believe the slab you show is going to be a public-private park / plaza with the retail shops existing underneath the Highline (and they look to be already in place)

  3. High Line => Shadow Gulch

  4. The era of “crapitecture” continues. 🙁

If these were in southern California, they would be called
    “San Andreas Towers”.

  5. Hitler would hate these.
