50 Trinity Place Begins Vertical Ascent in Financial District

Construction is now several floors above street level at 50 Trinity Place, a forthcoming Aloft Hotel in the Financial District. The project is designed by Peter Poon Architects and is being developed by FIT Investment Corporation, which purchased the property for $15 million eight years ago. Located at the intersection of Trinity Place and Rector Street, the site is located just to the north of 77 Greenwich Street.

Recent photographs show the rising form of the first few stories. The reinforced concrete superstructure also appears to include a pair of angled columns that flank the corner of the project. This section on the lower floors would frame the main entrance to the Aloft Hotel. However, a comparison with previous renderings may indicate a slight tweak in the final design, as this structural expression doesn’t appear to be highlighted within the curtain wall assembly and layout of the fenestration. It is still safe to assume the renderings reflect the overall basis for the approved design of the building.

50 Trinity Place will yield a total of 77,310 square feet and 173 hotel rooms. There will also be a ground-floor restaurant and a guests-only fitness center on the second floor. Trinity Church sits diagonally across from the site, while destinations such as the World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial, Brookfield Place, and Wall Street are all within a short walking distance. The entrance to the Rector Street subway station lies right at the intersection with access to the R and W trains, while the 1 train is at the end of the block to the west, and the 4 and 5 trains are nearby to the east at the Wall Street station.

YIMBY last reported 50 Trinity Place was set to be completed by this December, though sometime in 2021 now seems more likely.

Another one of the new generation of Architects of Peter Poon Architects.
Is a challenging corner on a superb location, I hope they are free enough to speak their minds on design.
Will be waiting to see the outcome!

  3. The church making bank again. But 15 million for a 140 room hotel site isnt bad.

Imagine if someone built a home there.

Hosting expensive distruption dinners in 4500 sq foot remodel home in fidi.

  4. 310 for a basic room. Within 6 minutes of 10 trains.

The site could work long term.

Plus regular and very popular short stay visitors. In at 5 out by 3 specials.

All with a friendly next door neighbor.

  5. This is just a lovely hotel for downtown Sheboygan and I…wait, this is in the historical district in NYC??!?! Cheap design and cheap construction. Will be torn down in 10 years.
