Two Manhattan West’s Steel Superstructure Takes Shape in Midtown West

Rendering of Two Manhattan West (left) and One Manhattan West (right). Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill

The steel superstructure of Two Manhattan West is now well above ground in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield, the 935-foot-tall skyscraper is located directly to the south of the completed One Manhattan West and will feature a nearly identical design. Two Manhattan West will top off at 58 floors and yield 2 million square feet of newly built office space, costing an estimated total of $2 billion.

Recent photos show the state of progress at the site, which is located between Ninth Avenue and Tenth Avenue along West 31st Street. The intricately assembled steel core and surrounding perimeter of columns offer a glimpse of the ground floor’s sheer size and height, which is only about half erected. The building will employ the same massing as its slightly taller sibling but will be oriented 90 degrees counterclockwise, with its sloped side facing north. This is depicted in the main rendering, which is a view of both skyscrapers looking west.

Two Manhattan West and Four Manhattan West, aka the Pendry Hotel, are the final components of the five-building Manhattan West complex. A public plaza in the center of the master plan will connect to a new Whole Foods Market in the base of Five Manhattan West, which will also contain a Peloton fitness studio, and market hall called Manhattan Eats. The closest subways are the 7 train to the west at Hudson Yards between 50 and 55 Hudson Yards and the A, C, and E trains underneath Pennsylvania Station along Eighth Avenue.

YIMBY previously reported that Two Manhattan West is slated to be finished around 2022.

  1. Demabd for office space is collapsing.

    Convert to condos .

  2. The initial building is quite elegant. Wiith its twin, it makes for an interesting comparison to the mess of the kpf towers at Hudson Yards (how many design moves and skin systems can one jam onto a pair of buildings??). Just repeating what worked is always risky, as it could degrade the impact of the original, but this appears thoughtful and powerful.

The across-the-street proximity to Moynihan Station will def help this complex, despite the excess of new office space. And given recent events, Hudson Yards (esp Phase II) suddenly seems W-A-Y further west of Herald Square than it did, just 4 mos ago. We won’t hold our breath to see decking atop the Phase II rail yard.

  5. Where’s #2 WTC?

  6. Midtown West ?? You mean Hell’s Kitchen !! It’ll never be called Midtown west. For $3.4 million for a studio in Hell’s Kitchen, I hope buyer’s like crack and heroine addicts on every corner

  7. This neighborhood will be great.
Wait a few years and this will be considered a great investment
