Excavation is underway for a four-story expansion at 68 Eldert Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn. When complete, the new property will top out at five stories and yield 13,474 square feet.

Before excavation, the single-story structure at 68 Eldert Street served as a church. The new development will support 3,575 square feet of unspecified community facilities and 9,899 square feet of residential space. The latter will be divided into ten rental units, averaging approximately 989 square feet apiece.

Renderings posted to the wooden barriers surrounding the excavation site reveal a series of Juliet balconies along Eldert Street, possibly a large terrace area above the fourth floor, and what appears to be an occupiable roof atop the structure. The renderings do not give any indication to the makeup of the curtain wall.

At this phase of construction, Arik Bar-Chaim, owner and primary developer of the project, has not revealed the participating architect nor the anticipated date of completion.

Future occupants will be well connected to the surrounding neighborhood via a number of public bus lines, the L train at Wilson Avenue, and the J train at Halsey Street.
