Construction on 842 Sixth Avenue in NoMad, has been stalled for the past several months and it is unclear as to if and when this planned 100,000-square-foot project will move forward. Designed by Danny Forster & Architecture, the 26-story building will house a 168-room AC NoMad Hotel by Marriott International and is slated to become the world’s tallest modular hotel. Concord Hospitality is the developer of the Midtown project, which sits between West 29th and West 30th Streets. Also part of the design program would be multiple outdoor terraces and a rooftop bar.

Peering through the green wooden construction boards show the site remaining empty and without any noticeable signs of recent activity. The base for the yellow construction crane tower is still anchored to the completed reinforced concrete foundation raft, while all the steel rebar that stick out from the foundation perimeter, the future inner core walls, and the round columns are capped off.

Should the building move forward, it will eclipse the architectural height of the Lower East Side’s citizenM New York Bowery Hotel, which currently holds the record of the tallest modular hotel in New York City. Forster’s AC NoMad Hotel’s modular components were last reported to be manufactured, packaged, and delivered from Poland. Below are some interior renderings that depict one modular unit, what a typical hotel room is planned to look like, a section cut of the lower floors of the edifice, as well as the amenity spaces for guests and visitors. A library and salon are additionally planned to be included.

YIMBY will check back in the future to see if construction resumes and look for a potentially revised completion date.

  1. I’m kind of disappointed by this. I was kind of looking forward to the AC NoMad Hotel because of the kind of interesting modular idea. Unfortunately, I do expect that it’ll probably not resume any time soon.

  2. The hotel market in NYC will be moribund for the next few years.

  3. I feel sorry for the tenants of the brick building behind this construction site. Imagine living in those apartments and never having SUNLIGHT in those windows! Guess they to leave their lights on all day? ?
