Excavation is underway at 141 Willoughby Street, the site of a 24-story mixed-use building in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and Fogarty Finger Architecture and developed by Savanna Real Estate, the project will yield a mix of office and retail space. The trapezoidal site is bound by Flatbush Avenue to the east, Willoughby Street to the south, and Gold Street to the west. The parcel was once the site of the Institute of Design and Construction, which was demolished last year.

Recent photos show excavators unearthing the site at multiple elevations above and below street level. Work is further ahead on the slimmer northern end of the property, where part of the subterranean walls is exposed and lined with long wooden boards.

An axonometric drawing of the project is posted on the construction board showing the massing and preliminary façade design. The line work does appear to match the proportions and scale of the curtain wall seen in the renderings that were revealed back in early June.

YIMBY last reported that 141 Willoughby Street will likely house a technology-focused retail tenant on the first two floors, with office suites located above. Landscaped terraces will sit at the ninth and 19th floors, with access for select office suites. Each level is expected to have floor-to-ceiling windows with light gold metallic mullions. Tenants facing north will have views up Flatbush Avenue of the Manhattan Bridge and the East River toward Manhattan. The eastern elevation will have abundant morning light exposure as well as vistas of the rest of Downtown Brooklyn and its rising skyline.

No official completion date has been announced for 141 Willoughby Street.

  1. I do think 141 Willoughby Street will be a welcome addition to Downtown Brooklyn. The gold accents will really make this building stand out. I also like the setbacks that it’ll have too.

  2. Very good, another attractive flatiron.

  3. I really like how the street wall on the side of Flatbush is coming along. Between this, 9 DeKalb and whatever will rise at the corner of Fulton there will be an almost unbroken wall of high-class facades. I hope that sometime further down the line the two mid-rise office buildings on Flatbush (those ugly wedges to either side of Fulton) will get redeveloped as well.

  4. Could have better respected it’s unique site
