Construction is wrapping up on 7 West 57th Street, Solow Realty & Development Group‘s 19-story mixed-use residential project in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Hill West Architects with Vidaris as the envelope consultant, the 237-foot-tall structure is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues on a narrow parcel to the east of developer’s 50-story SOM-designed property at 9 West 57th Street. Solow purchased the site of 7 West 57th Street 15 years ago for $25,550,000.

It’s been just over four years since YIMBY first wrote about the project when plans were initially announced. The pace of construction has been slow, but work is finally approaching the finish line.

Photographs show the reflective floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall fully installed on the main southern elevation facing West 57th Street and a lower section of horizontal metal grilles in place above the ground floor. The sidewalk scaffolding is still standing and covers the main entrance and first level of the property. The upper levels on the back side of the reinforced concrete superstructure also appears complete. The channeled glass on the top mechanical extension is installed and covers the once-bare concrete surface. The same external treatment is also applied to the western side of the building that abuts the Solow Building, as shown in the main rendering.

7 West 57th Street yields 32,099 square feet of residential space divided among 16 full-floor condominium units, each averaging just over 2,000 square feet. The first two stories are expected to contain 4,100 square feet of retail space. Residents that inhabit the top units will be able to look north toward Central Park, due to the structure just clearing the eastern elevation of the Plaza Hotel one street to the north.

YIMBY predicts that 7 West 57th Street will be fully finish sometime this year.

  1. Oooooh, shiny!
On a more serious note, I love it. The glass has a very elegant luster, and I really like what has been done to conceal the ugly concrete walls. Great building.

Could they not buy the air-rights for another 80 stories? Would have made a remarkable 6-7-10 split on 57th street.
