Foundation work has begun at 1841 Broadway, site of a 24-story residential building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Global Holdings Management Group, the 281-foot-tall building will yield 181,319 square feet and 173 units as well as 11,741 square feet of commercial space. Pavarini McGovern, LLC is the general contractor for the project, which will rise at the corner of Broadway and West 60th Street, just north of Columbus Circle and the southwestern corner of Central Park.

At the time of our last update in early June, excavation had recently begun following the demolition of the two former low-rise occupants of the site. Recent photos show the progress below grade since then. Multiple excavators sit at the bottom of the site, and it also looks like formation has begun on the outlines for the inner core walls.

No official architectural renderings have been released for the project. Only a black-and-white preliminary elevation rendering is available, as seen below. The drawing depicts the wider southern elevation and reveals a multi-story podium positioned along Broadway, double-height glass frontage across the angled eastern profile that would likely hold retail space, and an entrance underneath a canopy along West 60th Street. The building will be clad in a uniform grid of square and rectangular windows. A pair of setbacks near the parapet could likely be home to an outdoor rooftop terrace space.

1841 Broadway is slated to be finished in the fall of 2023, as noted on the construction board.

  1. This is a most prominent location. One hopes the design is more considered than the black and white elevation presented

  2. Let’s see how this goes.
