14 Second Avenue Begins Ascent Over The East Village, Manhattan

Construction is rising on 14 Second Avenue, a ten-story residential building in the East Village. Designed by David Cutler of Hustvedt Cutler Architects and developed by Daniel Vislocky of Station Companies, the 100-foot-tall, 22,247-square-foot development will yield ten units averaging 1,685 square feet apiece. The property is also expected to have two cellar levels and a 30-foot-long rear yard. New Empire Building Corporation is the general contractor for the project, which is narrowly wedged between First State Green Cultural Park and a row of low-rise buildings between East Houston and East 1st Streets.

Recent photos show the second level in the process of being built with the concrete formwork for the perimeter columns on the ground floor in place. Steel rebar stands protruding across the second story awaiting the next concrete pour to form the outer and inner walls and columns. So far the edifice remains fairly inconspicuous, but will soon eclipse the height of its adjacent residential neighbors and the tree line of First State Green Cultural Park.

Meanwhile a preliminary rendering was posted on site and shows a fairly simple façade of light- and black-colored metal panels interspersed between tall windows. A small setback on the northern side lined with glass railings is depicted on the ninth floor of the building, which culminates in a mechanical extension with another setback on the main western profile.

The local F train can be found across to the west at the Second Avenue station. Retail, entertainment, and dining options abound across the East Village and the adjacent neighborhoods of the Lower East Side, Bowery, and Noho.

14 Second Avenue is slated for completion in July 2022, as noted on the construction board.

  1. From what I see in the rendering, I think this could be quite nice.

    • I’m still waiting for you to declare something ugly or out of context.
Will you ever find any glass box you don’t like?

  2. Are you sober?
