Construction is nearing completion on Brooklyn Crossing, a 51-story residential skyscraper at 18 Sixth Avenue in Prospect HeightsBrooklyn. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by The Brodsky Organization and Greenland Forest City Partners, the 532-foot-tall, 740,000-square-foot building will yield 858 rental units, with 258 dedicated to affordable housing. The reinforced concrete structure towers over the adjacent Barclays Center and is the tallest building in the 22-acre Pacific Park master plan. The rest of the development will be constructed atop the currently exposed train tracks that run parallel with Atlantic Avenue directly to the east. Tishman Construction is the general contractor and McNamara Salvia is the structural engineer for the building, which is located at the corner of Atlantic and Sixth Avenues. Lemay + Escobar is designing the interiors, including the main lobby, the apartments, the corridors, the outdoor terrace, and the amenity spaces.

Finishing touches have continued since our last construction update in July of last year, notably at the roof level and around the midpoint setback. The construction elevator is in the process of being dismantled from the slim northern elevation. Sidewalk scaffolding still wraps around the base of the building, but should be taken down in the coming weeks.

Residential amenities include 24-hour concierge, doorman, recreation sky lounge and den, children’s playroom, fitness center, business workspace, office suites, library lounge, media/screening room, and a rooftop swimming pool. Units have name-brand appliances and finishes, lofty ceiling heights, washer and dryers, custom climate controls, and hardwood floors. Tenants are responsible for electricity.

Below are two daytime exterior renderings showing the final appearance of the tower and a close-up of its base, and two dusk renderings that depict the swimming pool and 360-degree views of Brooklyn, the Lower Manhattan and Midtown skylines across the East River, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge opening to the Atlantic Ocean, and the picturesque sunset over New Jersey and the New York Harbor.

Pacific Park is planned to bring 15 new buildings to the Prospect Heights neighborhood with a total of 6,430 apartments, including 2,250 affordable units, along with new office and retail space and an 8-acre Thomas Basely-designed public plaza. Subway access is convenient with the building’s location adjacent to the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center station, servicing the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, N, Q, and R trains. The Atlantic Terminal and its Long Island Railroad trains are located across Atlantic Avenue to the north of Brooklyn Crossing. A little further north along Fulton Street is the G train at the Fulton Street station, and the A and C trains at the Lafayette Avenue station.

Brooklyn Crossing should be finished in the next several months. The affordable housing lottery is still available and applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than March 14, 2022. Click here for more info from our previous post.

The renderings are much nicer than the reality, which looks like an oversized campus dormitory.

  2. I’m starting to really like this building. The window treatment is really top notch.

  3. Not bad. I like the green

  4. The tallest building at Atlantic Yards is actually B1, a.k.a, “Miss Brooklyn, ” which is supposed to go where the Barclays Center entrance plaza and oculus are. The “affordable” housing at Brooklyn Crossing requires a family of three to earn >$140,000. The platform over the rail yards that is supposed to include another 877 affordable apartments and most of the project’s open space was supposed to begin construction in 2020, but is still nowhere.

  5. Another switch in bait AFFORDABLE HIUSING, benefits the 130% AMI earners and up, while low income if any a studio, 1 bedroom will go for 1,650 1 bedroom 1700, AFFORDABLE for who
