Construction is complete on The Willoughby, a 34-story mixed-use tower at 196 Willoughby Street on Long Island University‘s Downtown Brooklyn campus. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by RXR Realty, the structure yields 476 residential units as well as academic and office spaces, an adjacent athletic field, and parking for 564 vehicles. Hunter Roberts Construction Group served as the general contractor for the project, which is bound by Willoughby Street to the north, Ashland Place to the east, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and Flatbush Avenue Extension to the west.

Recent photos show the completed look of the structure and its curtain wall of floor-to-ceiling glass and metal paneling. Leasing is currently underway for the units, which range from studios to two-bedroom layouts.

Some landscaping work around the front doors is still finishing up. The garden bed will be populated with shrubbery and plants in the near future.

  1. At first, I was very skeptical of The Willoughby. I thought it looked very cheap for many different reasons. However, now that is done, I actually quite like it. The glass is very sleek with its dark blue hue and the grey accents are pretty nice too. Overall, I think this a very fine design.

Extend beyond a surface, that is stand on its feet. It was a prominent to part of the design, maintain beautiful looks and keep the show on course: Thanks to Michael Young.

The entrance is the best part.

  4. Who would chose to live in Brooklyn when for the same rent or sale price they could live in Manhattan? This is particularly true of this area.
