YIMBY has an exclusive set of new renderings for a 47-story residential skyscraper at 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 430,000-square-foot tower will yield 453 units with 316 at market rate and 137 for moderate and middle incomes, as well as 9,000 square feet of retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. Demolition is complete and foundations are underway at the site, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

Renderings by ATCHAIN show a glass and earth-toned metal curtain wall. Above the podium, the massing incorporates a shallow southern and deeper northern setback, and another below the roof parapet. We could expect vertical progress to proceed fairly rapidly given the relative consistency of the floor plates in the majority of the tower.

Foundation work will continue throughout the summer and into the fall months, and the superstructure is expected to rise above street level this winter. Residential amenities at 550 Tenth Avenue include an upper-level lounge and adjacent outdoor sky deck with views of the Empire State Building, Hudson Yards, and sunsets over the Hudson River. The podium will contain space for social, leisure, and health and fitness amenities.

Recent photos show the state of progress on the plot, where a piling machine and excavator are active.

The site is a short walk from a number of subway lines including the A, C, and E trains at the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal Station, which offers a connection to the 42nd Street-Times Square Station servicing the 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, W, and Shuttle to Grand Central Station. Also nearby is the 7 train at the 34th Street-Hudson Station.

550 Tenth Avenue is targeting a completion date at the end of 2024 or early 2025.

  1. I like it. The earth tone color of the panels is pretty unique.

  2. Can’t not hear Colbert saying Covetton House.

  3. Will this project get built already? They’ve been talking about it forever…

  4. The second image says “looking east” but that is a north-north-east view looking up 10th ave also the blocks on 40th and 10th dont look real, they’re currently just lots. Really hope they can develop 455 w 40th Hunter college building right next to it. It’s a total eye sore in this area.

Definitely welcoming this new 550 building though!

For what I have seen, very elegant on the structure of working in progress. With a darker color and viewed from neighboring buildings, It’s so beautiful that I have to look at it first: Thanks to Michael Young.
