Work Continues on Gene Kaufman’s 140 West 28th Street Hotel Tower in Chelsea

Construction is progressing quickly on the 46-story, dual-brand Marriott Hotel at 140 West 28th Street in Chelsea. Installation of the windows on the northern and southern elevations of the topped-out structure is almost entirely completed, and work should begin soon on the metallic cladding that will cover the remainder of the curtain wall. The 470-foot-tall tower is designed by Gene Kaufman Architect for the McSam Hotel Group and will contain 173,000 square feet of newly built space. Omnibuild is in charge of the construction, and its banner is displayed over the building’s future entrance along West 28th Street.

140 West 28th Street Crosses Halfway Mark Above Chelsea

Construction of a 419-foot-tall hotel at 140 West 28th Street in Chelsea is passing the halfway mark. Workers are currently pouring the 29th floor and getting ready to create the form work for the 30th floor. The tower is designed by Gene Kaufman Architect and is being developed by Eastern Consolidated. The property successfully secured a $121.35 million debt and equity package last year thanks to the Bank of the Ozarks and Square Mile Capital Management. There will be 526 rooms divided among a Marriott, TownePlace Suites, and Springhill Suites. Each will have its own separate lobby on the ground floor and shared common rooms.

Kaufman’s Latest 45-Story Hotel at 140 West 28th Street Revealed, Receives $121 Million for Construction Funding, Chelsea

Eastern Consolidated has secured a $121.35 million debt and equity package for 140 West 28th Street, a 45-story, 526-key hotel set to rise in Chelsea. The deal is comprised of two sources, which are $97.5 million for the mortgage with Bank of the Ozarks, and $23.85 million for mezzanine construction by Square Mile Capital Management.
