175 Greenwich Street Almost Finished, Glass Reaches Pinnacle

There has been no bigger development saga in Manhattan than the rebuilding of the World Trade Center, and while it may not seem glaringly obvious, things took a major step forward this week as the glass atop 175 Greenwich Street reached the building’s parapet. It will still take another few months for the southern and eastern sides of the supertall, aka Three World Trade Center, to be completely enclosed, but both northern and western fronts are now fully complete.

It has been over five months since we last checked in on the progress of 3 World Trade Center. At the end of August, the glass was nearly halfway up the supertall tower. Since then, it has come much closer to the top.

2017 New Construction Report: Building Applications Crash, Down 38 Percent Since 2015

New building applications for single and multi-family residential developments in New York City saw a major slowdown in 2016, as the fading boom following the changes that occurred at the Department of Buildings in 2014 began to slack further. Most of the projects added to the image are either already under construction or imminently rising, and their collective impact on the cityscape will push the New York City skyline to new, Coruscantian heights.

3 World Trade Center Tops Out This Morning

3 World Trade Center Reaches Supertall Territory

The new World Trade Center is coming together. In March, the Santiago Calatrava-designed World Trade Center Transportation Hub opened. Liberty Park is due to open this summer. Now, we have news about one of the complex’s skyscrapers. 3 World Trade Center, located at 175 Greenwich Street, has reached supertall height.

YIMBY last brought you news of Three World Trade Center, at 175 Greenwich Street in the Financial Distinct, in August when we revealed the height of the 80-story office tower was reduced to 1,079 feet. Since then, when the concrete core had reached roughly the half-way point, the tower has risen significantly, as seen in photos by Tectonic. The core is now closing in on the neighboring Four World Trade Center, which stands 977 feet in height. Steel work is occurring roughly halfway up the tower, and fireproofing and glass installation is taking place on the lower levels. There will be 150,000 square feet of retail space across five floors in the 2.8-million-square-foot building. Silverstein Properties is developing the tower, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners is designing it, and completion is expected in 2018.

Three World Trade Center Gets Height Cut, Will Stand 1,079 Feet Tall

Last week, YIMBY posted an update on construction at 175 Greenwich Street, aka Three World Trade Center, as the tower reached its halfway point, having risen 41/80 stories. Now we have new information that the building has in fact seen a height reduction from the previous version, dropping from 1,168 feet down to 1,079 feet, and we also have two new renderings of the podium.

The last time we checked on Silverstein’s 175 Greenwich Street (aka Three World Trade Center), work had resumed, and the core had just begun rising again. Now, five months later, the future supertall has just passed the halfway point in its rise. A project insider has sent along several photos, as well as a few snippets of information, including word that the structure is up to the 41st floor (out of 80 total).
