On Monday, New York City had 117 interior landmarks. Now, it has 118. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate portions of the hotel now known as ONE UN New York, at 1 and 2 United Nations Plaza, as interior landmarks.
New York City is one step closer to getting another interior landmark. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the designation of the Ambassador Grill and lobby at 1 and 2 United Nations Plaza.
There are literally tens of thousands of buildings in New York City that have landmarks protection, either as individual landmarks or part of a historic district. However, there are fewer than 200 designated interiors. That number could soon go up.
