388-390 Greenwich Street’s Curtain Wall Makeover Nearly Complete in Tribeca

The installation of new glass curtain walls on the lower levels of 388 Greenwich Street and its annex at 390 Greenwich Street is almost complete. The taller, 39-story office building rises above the Tribeca waterfront across from Pier 25 and Pier 26. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the 14-story-high glass envelope, while Gensler is leading the interior renovations in both structures.

Checking In On The Facade Renovation at 388-390 Greenwich Street, Tribeca

Across from Piers 25 & 26, 388-390 Greenwich Street has stood for nearly 30 years as one of the tallest skyscrapers in Tribeca. Located just north of the Borough of Manhattan Community College, it is has been home to Citigroup’s New York headquarters since their repurchase of the building in 2016, after selling to SL Green for $1.6 billion back in 2007. The 39-story tower at 388 Greenwich Street sits connected to an adjacent nine-story building at 390 Greenwich Street, which Citigroup has also leased. Both components are in the midst of a major renovation of the lower exterior facades, led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, with interior architecture by Gensler.

Citigroup In Contract To Acquire Their 39-Story, 2.7-Million Square-Foot Headquarters At 388-390 Greenwich Street, TriBeCa

In early 2015, renderings were revealed of the planned renovations at Citigroup’s headquarters at 388-390 Greenwich Street, in TriBeCa, and now the company is in contract to acquire the the 39-story, 2.7-million square-foot office complex. According to Real Estate Weekly, Citigroup will purchase the properties from SL Green Realty Corp. for $2 billion. The renovations include connecting the tower portion at 388 Greenwich to the 10-story structure at 390 Greenwich. The transformation will include a new façade on large portions of the existing buildings, a single lobby that serves both sections, plaza renovations, a rooftop terrace, and amenities like a fitness center. The sale is expected to close in December of 2017 and renovations should be complete by 2019.
