LPC to Review Proposal for Immersive Museum at the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank, in Lower Manhattan

The Landmarks Preservation Commission is scheduled to review a proposal to partially renovate and repurpose the ground floor areas of the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank in Lower Manhattan into an immersive digital museum and gallery. Titled “Hall Des Lumieres,” the exhibition would feature 3D projections of the works of famed Austrian painter Gustav Klimt and would require architectural modifications to both the building’s façade and landmarked interiors.

Located at the intersection of 153rd Street and 89th Avenue, the lot is near the Sutphin Boulevard subway station, serviced by the F train. Chetrit Group is listed as the owner behind the applications. In 2015, YIMBY reported the same developer’s proposed redevelopment of Mary Immaculate Hospital on the block-long site, a 16-story rental complex with 339 apartments.

Excavation Continues for 33-Story Hotel at 255 West 34th Street in Midtown

Excavation is moving along at 255 West 34th Street, a new 33-story, 330-room hotel just across from One Penn Plaza. The Chetrit Group is developing the Midtown site with Stonehill & Taylor Architects as the architect of record. Meanwhile a new rendering for the 155,594-square-foot development has been posted at the construction site, which is situated along the southern edge of the Garment District.
