Construction Complete for 1561 Walton Avenue, Concourse, The Bronx

Construction has wrapped on an affordable housing project at 1561 Walton Avenue, in The Bronx’s Concourse neighborhood. The 11-story building was a joint development by the Briarwood Organization and the Settlement Housing Fund (SHF), to create 59 affordable apartments for people with an income of 40% to 90% relative to the Area Median Income. The building was designed with the goal of fostering community within open spaces. Briarwood is also responsible for general contracting, while SHF is responsible for development.

Ground was broken at 2865 Creston Avenue yesterday to mark the beginning of construction on Bedford Green House, a 13-story supportive and affordable housing project in The Bronx’s Bedford Park neighborhood. The development is expected to cost $58.8 million, with almost half financed by the New York City Housing Development Corporation, HDC, under their Extremely Low- and Low-Income Affordability (ELLA) program.

Three-Story, 56,800-Square-Foot School Expansion Filed For PS. 32 At 317 Hoyt Street, Gowanus

The New York City School Construction Authority (SCA) has filed applications for a three-story, 56,856-square-foot expansion of P.S. 32 The Samuel Mills Sprole School at 317 Hoyt Street, in Gowanus. The new addition, with an address of 420 Union Street, will feature administrative offices, a cafeteria, a library, and a lobby on the ground floor, followed by classrooms on the two floors above. A playground will be located on the second floor, as well. The 46-foot-tall structure will most likely be built on the eastern end of the site, where single-story overflow classrooms currently exist. Edelman Sultan Knox Wood Architects will be responsible for the design.
