50 West 66th Street Rises on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

The 13th-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 50 West 66th Street, a 69-story residential skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Snøhetta with SLCE as the executive architect, and developed by Extell and Tennor Holding B.V., the 775-foot-tall structure will yield 127 condominium units and secure the distinction of the tallest building in Manhattan north of 59th Street. Lendlease is the general contractor for the property, which is located between West 66th Street to the north, West 65th Street to the south, Central Park West to the east, and the intersection of Broadway and Columbus Avenue to the west.

YIMBY recently had the opportunity to check out the views from the penthouse of Central Park Tower, a 131-story supertall residential skyscraper at 217 West 57th Street on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill and developed by Gary Barnett of Extell, the 1,550-foot-tall tower yields 179 units including the triplex penthouse, spanning nearly 17,500 square feet. Ryan Serhant of SERHANT is marketing this coveted unit, which hit the market on September 19 for $250 million, the most expensive home ever listed in the United States.

Excavation Begins for 1,067-Foot Tower at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Excavation and pilings are underway at 740 Eighth Avenue, the site of a 1,067-foot-tall hotel and observation tower in Midtown, Manhattan. ODA is the design architect, SLCE Architects is the architect of record, and Extell is developing the 52-story supertall skyscraper that will yield 776,000 square feet with an 825-room hotel in the tower base and an upper observatory spanning four floors with a drop ride attraction. The building will also contain retail space, two upper restaurant floors, and a pool deck. The top observatory floor will serve as an exclusive VIP space. Lendlease is listed as the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer,  and Ancora Engineering is handling the excavation and drilling for the foundations of the property, which is located between West 45th and 46th Streets.

Construction Resumes on Extell’s 50 West 66th Street Skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Construction has resumed on 50 West 66th Street, a 69-story, 775-foot-tall residential skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Snøhetta and developed by Extell Development Company, the tower will yield 127 condominium units and claim the title of the tallest building north of 59th Street. YIMBY last reported that global investment entity Tennor Holding B.V. will help complete the edifice, which is being built on a plot located between Central Park West to the east, the intersection of Broadway and Columbus Avenue to the west, West 65th Street to the south, and West 66th Street to the north.
