Housing Lottery Launches for HDFC Co-Ops in Washington Heights, Manhattan

The affordable housing lottery is now open for HDFC Co-Ops, two recently renovated cooperative developments at 518 West 161st Street and 544 West 163rd Street in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood. The six-story structure with 24 units at 518 West 161st Street is designed by RKTB Architects and developed by the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development. 544 West 163rd Street is a five-story building with 20 units, developed by Restoring Communities Housing Development Fund. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 18 units for residents at 110 percent of the area median income, ranging in eligible income from $67,693 to $155,100.

Jehovah’s Witnesses Hotel’s Affordable Housing Transformation Imminent at 90 Sands Street in DUMBO

A former Jehovah’s Witness Hotel at 90 Sands Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn will soon be transformed into 491-unit residential property with a mix of deeply affordable and supportive housing units. From Breaking Ground, New York City’s largest supportive housing developer, construction is expected to kick off before the end of November.

Detailed proposals contained within an environmental assessment statement reveal plans to construct a mixed-use affordable housing building in Sunnyside, Queens. Located at 50-25 Barnett Avenue, the eight-story building could yield 167 to 189 residential units, 170 parking spaces, and 5,323 square feet of office area that will be reserved for non-profit use.

Construction Begins on Affordable Senior Housing at 23-11 31st Road in Astoria, Queens

Catholic Charities Progress of Peoples Development Corporation, abbreviated as Catholic Charities, has begun construction on a new six-story affordable housing project for seniors in Astoria, Queens. Located at 23-11 31st Road, the project will debut as Bishop Valero Residence with 102 units designated for low-income seniors and the formerly homeless.

Permits Filed for 496 Sutter Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn

Permits have been filed for a nine-story mixed-use building at 496 Sutter Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. Located between at the intersection of Lillie F. Martin Lane and Sutter Avenue, the corner lot is also addressed as 273 Snediker Avenue. One block from the site is the Sutter Avenue subway station, serviced by the L train. New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications.

Permits have been filed for an eight-story mixed-use building at 402 Metropolitan Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Located at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Marcy Avenue, the corner lot is two blocks west of the Metropolitan Avenue-Lorimer Street subway station, serviced by the L and G trains. Mattone Investors under the 402 Metropolitan Avenue LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications. According to the filing, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development is also involved with the project.

One East Harlem Tops Out at 201 East 125th Street, in Harlem

Construction has topped out on One East Harlem, a 19-story mixed-use building at 201 East 125th Street in Harlem. Designed by S9 Architecture, the reinforced concrete structure prominently rises above its surroundings and will yield over 420,000 square feet of newly built space. Work broke ground last summer and required the demolition of a couple low-rise structures occupying the site. Richman Group Development, Bridges Development Group, and Monadnock Development are the developers of the project, and received a mix of public and private funding from Citigroup, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and the New York City Housing Development Corporation.

HPD Proposes Residential Building in Brooklyn’s Stuyvesant Heights Historic District

Proposals from the Department of Housing Preservation & Development could facilitate the construction of a new three-story residential building in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The property is located at 350 Malcolm X. Boulevard within the neighborhood’s Expanded Stuyvesant Heights Historic District, requiring initial approvals from the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

Bronx Point Complex Achieves WEDG Certification for Sustainable Waterfront Design

A 1,045-unit housing complex known as Bronx Point is now recognized as the first and only affordable housing project to achieve WEDG certification. The rating system was founded by the Waterfront Alliance, an independent offshoot of The Municipal Art Society of New York, that establishes guidelines for ecologically friendly waterfront design and construction.
