227 West Street’s Façade Installation Continues in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Façade installation is continuing to progress on 227 West Street, a pair of 30- and 40-story residential towers with complementary stepped cantilevers and setbacks in GreenpointBrooklyn. Designed by OMA with Beyer Blinder Belle as the architect of record and developed by both Brookfield Property Partners and Park Tower Group, the mixed-use project is part of the 22-acre Greenpoint Landing development along the East River. James Corner Field Operations is the landscape architect, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the structural engineer, Thornton Tomasetti is the façade consultant, and Highbury Concrete is responsible for building the reinforced concrete superstructures, which are rising right off the corner of Eagle and West Streets.

Last week TF Cornerstone and RXR Realty, development partners of the Grand Hyatt New York redevelopment in Midtown East, announced a cultural program at 175 Park Avenue with New York City-based non-profit Public Art Fund and Lord Cultural Resources. This will include public art installations, community events, and programming inside and around the Skidmore Owings & Merrill-designed skyscraper.

Domino Sugar Refinery Prepares for Office Conversion at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Construction work is ramping up for the office conversion of the 140-year-old Domino Sugar Refinery at 292 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Designed by Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU) and developed by Two Trees, the project is the centerpiece of the Domino Sugar master plan by SHoP Architects and James Corner Field Operations and involves the construction of a massive barrel-vaulted glass roof atop the former factory. When complete, the structure will top out at 235 feet tall, while the interiors will be gutted and restored. Levels one through four, as well as 14 and 15 will have their ceiling spans increased, and the 16th floor will be eliminated.

Updated Renderings Showcase River Ring, BIG’s Two-Skyscraper Development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

New renderings have been released for River Ring, Bjarke Ingels Group‘s proposed two-skyscraper development in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Developed by Two Trees Management, the organization behind Domino Park, the undertaking is planned to yield 1,050 homes with 263 affordable housing units as well as a six-acre circular waterfront park designed by James Corner Field Operations. The towers would rise from two vacant rectangular parcels that were once home to a Con Edison electric plant bound by North First Street, North Third Street, and River Street. River Ring is expected to generate about 2,000 construction jobs and more than 500 well-paying permanent jobs upon completion.
