A proposed “boutique” office tower at 106 West 56th Street has begun excavation, where private equity firm Savanna Fund, along with Hong Kong based developer Atom Assets, plan to construct a 26-story tower. The site is located between 6th and 7th Avenues, just south of Billionaire’s Row.
The Foster + Parters design for 425 Park Avenue’s revamp is making major progress. The Midtown office building will be aesthetically divided into three sections, with proportions defined by the remains of the formerly extant structure, which comprise its lowest floors. Thanks to Tectonic, we can confirm that the new tower is now making the transition from its second section into the final, vertical rise. Construction has 22 floors left until topping-out, or just over half of the 41 total floors that will result.
For the second time this week, we can report that a supertall in Manhattan is reaching its peak. One Manhattan West’s concrete superstructure has topped-out 995 feet above Midtown. Brookfield is behind Manhattan West, which will create six buildings and a large public plaza, producing a total seven million square feet of office, residential, and hotel space.
It’s been five months since 53 West 53rd Street came within striking distance of its pinnacle. We can now report that the Midtown supertall has officially topped out at its highest habitable floor, which contains the upper portion of a $70 million duplex. In today’s post, we scope the views from the tower’s apex, and also have the latest from the tower’s architect, Jean Nouvel, who attended the topping-out celebration last week.
Right across from the iconic Grand Central terminal in Midtown, construction is moving along for the commercial supertall One Vanderbilt. Our last update in March showed that the building had reached two floors above the distinctive retail podium. We can report that the structure has more than doubled in height over the past three months, now standing 17 floors above street level. The building will eventually top off 1,401 feet above street level, and SL Green is developing.
