Official Renderings Revealed Of Nordstrom Tower’s Retail Base Under Construction At 217 West 57th Street

Last week, YIMBY brought you a sneak peak of the glassy façade that will eventually be installed on Extell Development’s 95-story, 1,550-foot-tall condominium tower (officially Central Park Tower), currently under construction at 217 West 57th Street in Midtown. The supertall will boast Nordstrom’s first Manhattan flagship store, and now the Seattle Times has revealed official renderings of the building’s retail podium. The Seattle-based department store will span 363,000 square feet across eight stories (three below grade) in the development.

Back in October, the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a proposal that would remake a good chunk of West 29th Street between Broadway and Fifth Avenue. It would include restoring two landmarks and construction of a 64-story mixed-use tower. The hearing in October was paused because of the late hour and lack of quorum, and when it resumed on Tuesday, it became clear that one aspect of it was the big stumbling block.

Bjarke Ingels-Designed Supertall For Tishman Speyer Revealed At 66 Hudson Boulevard, Hudson Yards

One of the largest remaining development sites in the Hudson Yards rezoning, owned by Tishman Speyer, now has official plans, as per the Wall Street Journal. The building, at 66 Hudson Boulevard, will stand 1,005 feet to its pinnacle, rising 65 floors and containing 2.85 million square feet overall, including 27,000 square feet of retail. The tower will cost upwards of $3 billion, and Danish architect Bjarke Ingels of BIG is designing the supertall, which will be laced in bands of diagonal sky terraces. The site is located between West 34th and West 35th Streets and 10th Avenue, and Tishman is currently seeking an anchor tenant.

YIMBY has brought you continual updates on the progress of Extell’s 217 West 57th Street, a.k.a. Nordstrom Tower (officially Central Park Tower), and now we have the first photos of what the facade for the building will actually look like, as well as an update on progress. The image comes from an anonymous tipster and shows the glass that will appear over the top of the Nordstrom floors, crowning the retail podium in a series of undulating curves, and demarcating the boundary between the pedestrian realm and the supertall that will cantilever up above.

Renovations, Upgrades Underway At 40-Story Office Building At 437 Madison Avenue, Midtown

The 40-story, 850,000 square-foot office building at 437 Madison Avenue, located between East 49th and 50th streets in Midtown, is currently receiving $60 million in upgrades and renovations, according to Real Estate Weekly. The outdoor plaza and the building’s lobby are being redesigned, building infrastructure is being upgraded, and new amenities are being constructed, including a 15th-floor sky lounge, garden terrace conference rooms, an arcade, and a yoga room. Construction began two years ago and completion is expected early this year. The Emery Roth & Sons-designed building was completed in 1967 and the William Kaufman Organization has owned it ever since. Fogarty Finger is designing the renovation. Medallion Financial Corp. recently extended their 18,650 square-foot lease in the building.
