Expansion Planned For The Metropolitan Museum of Art At 1000 Fifth Avenue, Upper East Side

Daniel Brodsky is planning to build a 180,000 square-foot addition to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located at 1000 Fifth Avenue, between East 80th and 84th streets on the Upper East Side. According to the New York Post, the expansion would include a Southwest Wing to showcase modern and contemporary art, and possibly additional galleries for the Arts of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas exhibits. The expansion will be designed by David Chipperfield Architects and won’t rise taller than the existing two-million-square-foot art museum. Plans will have to be approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission because the structure is an individual landmark (with additional interior landmarked spaces; it’s also listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places). Brodsky recently completed the museum’s $65 million David H. Koch Plaza, which runs along Fifth Avenue in front of the building.

405 East 73rd Street

Expansion Planned For Ronald McDonald House Cancer Facility At 405 East 73rd Street, Upper East Side

The Ronald McDonald House located at 405 East 73rd Street, on the Upper East Side, is proposing to expand their 11-story, 84-unit pediatric oncology residential facility. According to DNAinfo, the expansion would add 11 additional family suites, six of which would be isolation rooms for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients. The Boards of Standards and Appeals must first approve the project because the expansion would flow over the allowable square-footage. If approved, the building would be reconfigured and parts of it pulled closer to the street, adding 7,000 square feet of additional space. Construction would last about a year.

360 East 89th Street

34-Story, 84-Unit Residential Tower Rises At 360 East 89th Street, Upper East Side

Last October, the foundation was being poured for Anbau Enterprises’ 34-story, 84-unit condominium building at 360 East 89th Street, on the Upper East Side, and today, the concrete structure is six stories above street level, thanks to photos by Tectonic. The project, dubbed Citizen360, will include one- to four-bedroom units as well as 3,265 square feet of ground-floor retail space, per the latest permits. When it opens in early 2017, residents will have access to amenities including yoga, training and multimedia studios, lounges, and an entertainment suite. SHoP Architects is designing the 212,325 square-foot building.

Construction Update: Memorial Sloan Kettering’s David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, Upper East Side

One of the biggest names in cancer care is getting even bigger. The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), which has become a large network of centers, both in and outside of New York City, is constructing the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care on the East Side. Located along the FDR Drive between East 73rd Street and East 74th Street, it will not only care for patients, but also have a research element. Thanks to photos from our friend Tectonic, we can see that a fair amount of below-ground work has been accomplished.

60 East 86th Street

19-Story, 15-Unit Residential Project Well Underway At 60 East 86th Street, Upper East Side

Three years ago, news broke that Glenwood Management would be building a 19-story, 15-unit luxury residential building at 60 East 86th Street, on the Upper West Side. The Thomas Juul-Hansen-design project is now structurally complete and receiving its façade, thanks to photos by Tectonic (h/t Curbed). Those 15 condominiums will spread across 52,213 square feet of residential space, which means units will be incredibly large, averaging 3,480 square feet apiece. Completion is expected later this year.
