PENN 2’s Re-Cladding Underway at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

Work has begun on the re-cladding of PENN 2, a 31-story commercial building at Two Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by MdeAS Architects and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the project involves the replacement of the 53-year-old structure’s dark façade with a much lighter glass enclosure. The 412-foot-tall, 1.61-million-square-foot tower was originally designed by Charles Luckman Associates and stands along Seventh Avenue between West 31st and 33rd Streets, immediately to the east of Madison Square Garden. Governor Kathy Hochul Reveals Updated Plans And Renderings For Penn Station Overhaul in Midtown, Manhattan

Yesterday afternoon Governor Kathy Hochul revealed numerous new renderings of what the outdated 53-year-old Penn Station and the surrounding Midtown, Manhattan district could soon become. Despite being slightly downsized by 7 percent from former Governor Cuomo’s ten-building master plan, the new proposal still encompasses an incredible 18.3 million square feet of construction and redevelopment. Vornado Realty Trust is the developer of the master plan, which is expected to take four to five years to complete and cost between $6-7 billion.

YIMBY spotted a series of new and updated interior and exterior renderings by DBOX of Penn 15, a massive 1,270-foot supertall designed by Foster + Partners at 15 Penn Plaza. The mammoth 2.8 million-square-foot, 57-story office project is being developed by Vornado Realty Trust and is part of the much larger 7.4 million-square-foot Penn District master plan in Midtown, Manhattan. The redevelopment aims to transform and revitalize the area between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and West 32nd and West 34th Streets with a total of eight new buildings. All of which would surround the 109-year-old James A. Farley Building and Skidmore Owings & Merrill‘s newly opened Moynihan Train Hall, as well as One and Two Penn Plaza and Madison Square Garden, which itself has also seen grandiose proposals to be re-imagined.
