This month Long Island University and RXR Realty celebrated the commencement of a multimillion-dollar capital improvement project at the institution’s Downtown Brooklyn campus. Located near the buzzing intersection of Flatbush and Dekalb Avenues, the improvement plan arrives as part of an initiative to modernize existing academic and recreational facilities.
The State University of New York at New Paltz this week celebrated the completion of a $13.5 million Engineering Innovation Hub located on the institution’s Hudson Valley campus. Designed by Urbahn Architects, the two-story building comprises 19,500 square feet and serves as a central headquarters for the university’s bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering that has seen rapid enrollment growth since launching in 2014.
Construction has kicked off at 1475 41st Street, where developers have gained approvals to expand and repurpose an existing four-story building into a new school. Located on an 8,000-square-foot corner lot in Borough Park, Brooklyn, the school is expected to debut by September 2020 and will top out at seven stories.
City agencies have kicked off construction on a 21-story “tech hub” at 124 East 14th Street in Manhattan, just east of Union Square. Known officially as the Union Square Tech Training Center, the project is poised to accelerate the diversification of New York City’s technology sector through the provision of education facilities, vocational training, and on-site resources for local start-ups.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has unanimously approved an expansion within Packer Collegiate Institute’s historic Brooklyn Heights campus. Designed by PBDW Architects, plans include the construction of a large addition to an existing garden house at 170 Joralemon Street.
