Hudson Hill at 76 Locust Hill Avenue is poised to debut as one of the most sustainably designed affordable housing buildings in Yonkers, New York. As part of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority’s Building of Excellence Competition, project plans were presented by developer Westhab, Inc. and Amie Gross Architects, which was awarded $1 million to complete the building.

New construction permits have been filed for a six-story mixed-use building at 221 Port Richmond Avenue, in Staten Island’s Port Richmond neighborhood. The corner site, between Castleton Avenue and Anderson Avenue, will soon be home to 48 affordable housing units, to be completed by 2021. Located in a commercial area, the lot is about a 22 minute bus ride along Castleton Avenue to the St. George ferry terminal that connects to Manhattan. Hudson Companies is listed as the owner behind the applications.
The nonprofit Transitional Services for New York (TSINY) is set to break ground on Friday on a seven-story, 44-unit residential building at 88-39 163rd Street, in downtown Jamaica. Thirty-three of the units will be designated for patients of the organization’s mental health program and 11 will rent at below-market rates to individuals from Queens, DNAinfo reported. All of the units will be studios and should average 471 square feet apiece. The latest building permits indicate the new building will measure 28,210 square feet and rise 65 feet to its roof, not including bulkhead elements. Long Island City-based Amie Gross Architects is the architect of record. Completion is expected in spring 2018. A 5,266-square-foot, two-story house on the site was demolished in 2013.
Construction is wrapping up at the seven-story, 46-unit subsidized rental building at 382 Lefferts Avenue, in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, just a block from the 2/5 subway’s Sterling Street stop. In 2007, developer Tali Realty began construction with plans to build 26 condos, but after the financial crisis stalled the project, the City provided funding in return for an all-affordable building, according to Brownstoner. Units are currently in the applications process, and the building will likely open before 2016. Amie Gross is the architect of record.
