Seven new gates are now complete within the Western Concourse of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B. The announcement represents a major milestone of an ongoing redevelopment project valued at around $8 billion.
The State University of New York at New Paltz this week celebrated the completion of a $13.5 million Engineering Innovation Hub located on the institution’s Hudson Valley campus. Designed by Urbahn Architects, the two-story building comprises 19,500 square feet and serves as a central headquarters for the university’s bachelor’s degree program in mechanical engineering that has seen rapid enrollment growth since launching in 2014.
Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a call for ideas in the redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport. The invitation for a request for information by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is for the design and development of JFK Central, a roughly 14-acre, mixed-use space within the complex. This is the latest step in Governor Cuomo’s $13-billion plan for the redesign of JFK, which includes two new international terminals with modern passenger amenities, user-friendly ground transportation options, and improved roadway infrastructure to accommodate a projected increase of at least 15 million passengers per year.

Broadly, the goal of the project is to better interconnect the airport’s existing terminals and improve the flow of vehicles and people through reconstruction and expansion of roadways, Crain’s reported. There would also be a large parking garage at the center of the airport, possibly to be topped by green space. Mass-transit upgrades are also in store, including plans for a one-seat ride to Manhattan. The state’s Department of Transportation will head the construction pertaining to roadways and mass transit, while the airport is expected to be rebuilt under partnerships with airline companies and operators, including the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
Earlier this year, Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a request for proposals (RFP) to upgrade, modernize, and expand Pennsylvania Station, located at Eighth Avenue and West 33rd Street under Madison Square Garden. The project will also incorporate the landmarked James A. Farley Post Office Building into the transportation complex. Now, renderings of the project have been revealed, per The New York Times, along with a timeline.
