Most new construction in Downtown Brooklyn easily falls into the category of “megaproject,” from the residential towers and mall of City Point to John Catsimatidis’ 32-story residential development at 86 Fleet Place. But every once in a while, someone files a somewhat reasonably sized building on a small lot there. Yesterday’s crop of filings brought a new building application for a skinny, 11-story residential development at 112 Fleet Place.
The Naftali Group is developing two luxury condo buildings on West 77th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side. The one on the north side of the block, at 221 West 77th Street, has just reached its full height of 185 feet.
Midwood, in central Brooklyn, is quietly becoming a hub for new residential development. Last week, we spotted plans to build an eight-story, mixed-use apartment building at 1608 East 19th Street, near the border between Midwood and Sheepshead Bay.
Possibly the most prominent new development in New York City is beginning to come to life today. 10 Hudson Yards, the first building completed at Related and Oxford’s Hudson Yards mixed-use project, is opening its doors, and we have a new look at the skyscraper, which will be home to Coach’s corporate headquarters.
Fourth Avenue’s development boom is moving south from Park Slope into Greenwood Heights. Developer Steve Cheung filed plans on Friday to erect a 12-story, mixed-use building at 685 Fourth Avenue, on the corner of 22nd Street. The 120-foot-tall project will bring 81 apartments and 6,400 square feet of retail space to a parking lot a couple blocks south of the Prospect Expressway.
