Commercial Renovation Underway At Brooklyn Navy Yard’s 16-Story, One-Million Square-Foot Building 77

Back in July, details were revealed of the planned renovation of Brooklyn Navy Yard’s Building 77 — a 16-story, one million-square-foot industrial building — and now Brownstoner reports work is well underway. Retail space is planned on the ground floor, along with a 60,000 square-foot public food hall, and the floors above will be leased to commercial and manufacturing tenants. Beyer Blinder Belle and Marvel Architects are designing the city-funded project, which is expected to open for business in the second half of 2016.

Construction Wraps Up On 551 West 21st Street, West Chelsea

YIMBY last checked in earlier this year on the 19-story, 44-unit residential building at 551 West 21st Street, in West Chelsea, when glass and white masonry were being installed, and now the building is wrapping up construction, with only the Juliet balconies to be fastened on, courtesy of Tectonic. Most of the exterior details have been completed, and interior work is likely in full swing. SR Capital is developing, Foster + Partners is the design architect, and Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect of record. Completion and move-ins are expected early next year.


41 Flatbush Avenue

Renderings Of 10-Story, 260,000 Square-Foot Office Conversion At 41 Flatbush Avenue, DoBro

Last March, Quinlan Development Group, along with Building & Land Technology, purchased the 10-story commercial building turned storage facility at 41 Flatbush Avenue, in Downtown Brooklyn, for $89.4 million, and now Commercial Observer has the first glimpse of the property’s planned office conversion. The building measures 260,866 square feet, and retail space will span the ground floor while offices will spread across the remainder. Interior spaces feature 13-foot-high, terra cotta-clad ceilings, and the exterior façade will be limestone. A rooftop deck is also indicated in the Schedule A, and Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect of record.


1681 Third Avenue

30-Story, 83-Unit Condo Building Under Construction At 200 East 95th Street, Upper East Side

Earlier this year, YIMBY revealed renderings of Extell Development’s 30-story, 83-unit mixed-use building planned at 200 East 95th Street/1681 Third Avenue, on the Upper East Side, and now foundation work is underway, according to DNAinfo. The building is being dubbed The Kent, and its 83 units will be condominiums spanning two- to five-bedrooms apiece. Ground-floor retail space will also measure 14,000 square feet, and Beyer Blinder Belle is the architect of record. Completion is expected in the second half of 2017.


New York Public Library

Mecanoo To Lead New York Public Library Renovations At Bryant Park, Midtown

The New York Public Library Main Branch, located at 5th Avenue and 42nd Street, in Midtown, has selected the Netherlands-based architecture firm Mecanoo to design the building’s $300 million renovation, according to the New York Times. Beyer Blinder Belle will serve as the architect of record, and the 645,680 square-foot-building will receive new interiors. More space will also be opened to the public. Last year, the library abandoned planned renovations that would have been led by Norman Foster.
