1,031-Foot Tall 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral, Tops Out Over Hudson Yards, Manhattan

The rapid pace of construction at 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral, finally reached the 65-story, 1,031-foot-tall pinnacle over Hudson Yards this past Tuesday. Despite a light flurry of snow showers, the dedication ceremony was successfully held with Tishman Speyer President and CEO Rob Speyer joined on by Gary LaBarbera, President of the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, Peter Davoren, President and CEO of Turner Construction Company and a group of trade partners. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, the steel-framed superstructure is located on a full-block parcel bound by Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and 34th and 35th Streets, and will yield 2.8 million square feet of office space.

The Spiral Approaches Topping Out at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards

Work is approaching topping out on 66 Hudson Boulevard, aka The Spiral, a 1,041-foot-tall commercial supertall in Hudson Yards and number seven on YIMBY’s December construction countdown. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, the skyscraper occupies a full block between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and 34th and 35th Streets and will yield 2.85 million square feet of office space. Turner Construction Company is serving as the construction manager, Banker Steel is in charge of manufacturing the steel, and Permasteelisa is the contractor for the glass enclosure for the 66-story project, which is expected to cost $3.7 billion.

Excavation Work Continues for BIG’s 3 West 29th Street in NoMad

Once again, we’re counting down the final days of the year with a list of the 31 tallest skyscrapers under construction across the New York metropolitan region. The first project on the list is 3 West 29th Street, a 551-foot-tall, 34-story office tower in NoMad. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group for HFZ Capital Group and formerly known as 29th & 5th, the project will bring nearly 300,000 square feet of newly built space to the expanding neighborhood. The site is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, almost directly in line with the Empire State Building. Pavarini McGovern, LLC is the general contractor for the development.

Façade Work on Bjarke Ingels’ The XI Temporarily On Hold in Chelsea

YIMBY’s Turkey Week update of stalled projects continues with The XI, a twisting pair of 26- and 36-story residential structures at 76 Eleventh Avenue in Chelsea. Designed by Danish architect Bjarke Ingels of Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by HFZ Capital Group, façade installation work appears to be on hold for the moment at the site, which is located on the western side of the High Line. Among the tallest buildings to rise along the Hudson River, the 908,250-square-foot two-tower design will yield 236 condominiums and a 137-room Six Senses Hotel Resort Spa, the brand’s first location in the United States. YIMBY last reported that Omnibuild is in charge of the construction and Douglas Elliman is handling sales and marketing.
