Construction is underway for Marcus Garvey Village, an 18-story mixed-use development in Manhattan’s Harlem neighborhood. Located at 212 West 124th Street, the 300,000-square-foot building will have 330 units, 3,200 square feet of commercial space, and 7,164 square feet of community facility space. The Harlem-based team behind the project includes developer Carthage Real Estate Advisors and Body Lawson Associates Architects and Planners for the design.

Developers and city officials recently celebrated the commencement of construction at Peninsula, a five-acre mixed-use complex in The Bronx. Located in Hunts Point, the project includes a complete transformation and conversion of the defunct Spofford Juvenile Detention Center.
Following a crucial vote by The New York City Council Committee on Land Use, a massive redevelopment proposal for the long-vacant Spofford Juvenile Detention Center in the the South Bronx will officially move forward. The project is expected to have transformative effects on the surrounding Hunts Point neighborhood, and is the latest component of the city’s multi-billion dollar initiative to rejuvenate the South Bronx.
Permits have been filed for a 12-story mixed-use affordable housing facility at 1769 Fort George Hill, in Inwood. The structure would be an improvement from the site’s current situation. Residents have complained that the parking on the vacant lot has expanded without permits, and been used for commercial parking and a car wash. South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBro) will be responsible for the development.
With Harlem’s 125th Street seeing a proliferation of new developments in recent years, it should come as no surprise that twenty blocks to the north, the 145th Street Corridor is also growing once again. Building applications have been filed for an eight-story building at 210 West 145th Street, between Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard, on a lot that is currently vacant.
