Construction Begins On Pier 3 Of Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn Heights

Ground has recently been broken to transform Pier 3, located within Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn Heights, into a functional park. Pier 3 represents the last portion of the Brooklyn Bridge Park project. It will feature a large lawn, a playground, walking paths, vegetation, and a plaza, according to a rendering released by Curbed NY. This portion of Brooklyn Bridge Park is estimated to cost $26 million and is scheduled to be completed in 2018. Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates is the landscape architect.

146 Pierrepont Street in Brooklyn Heights Cleared for 19-Story Tower

Jonathan Rose Companies has finished knocking down a nine-story office building and a four-story residential one at 146 Pierrepont Street in Brooklyn Heights, where they’re planning a 19-story, mixed-use tower. Tectonic recently swung by the site between Clinton Street and Cadman Plaza West and sent along this shot of the demolition progress.

Landmarks Now Approves of Renovation Plan for 152 Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights

A Brooklyn Heights building possibly dating back to the administration of President Andrew Jackson can now get a welcome renovation. Last Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a proposal for work on 152 Henry Street.

A rowhouse in the city’s first historic district will be getting some welcome renovations, but it will also be losing a quirk it picked up sometime after its construction. The public is not nuts about that loss, and it led the Landmarks Preservation Commission to end up with a somewhat rare non-unanimous vote.

Since being four stories in height back in February, the 19-story, 60-unit mixed-use building under construction at 153 Remsen Street, in Brooklyn Heights, has topped out and is now receiving its façade elements. The latest photo was posted to the YIMBY Forums by Tectonic. The latest permits indicate the structure encompasses 90,850 square feet. It will host 4,465 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, followed by residential units on the floors above. It’s unclear if the units will be rentals or condominiums, but they will average 1,196 square feet apiece. Amenities include a fitness center, laundry facilities, a children’s playroom, storage for 30 bikes, and a rooftop terrace. Quinlan Development and Lonicera Partners are the developers. S9 Architecture is behind the architecture. Completion is expected by the end of the year.

Landmarks Not Sold by Renovation Proposal for 152 Henry Street, Brooklyn Heights

Though a renovation would be welcome at one pre-Civil War residential building in the city’s first historic district, it will have to wait. Last Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission took no action on a proposal for 152 Henry Street, in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District.

Landmarks Backlog Moves Forward with Designation of Ukrainian Church in Exile

On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the 16^th site from its former 95-item backlog of items from before 2010. The former Williamsburgh Trust Company Building at 177 South 5^th Street, in Williamsburg, has now been designated a landmark. Additionally, two more Brooklyn structures are now on the path to designation.

A pre-Civil War corner building in New York City’s first historic district will be restored to its former glory. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a plan to rebuild 100 Clark Street, which is also known as 1 Monroe Place.

Development Team Acquires 11-Story Watchtower Complex at 25-30 Columbia in Brooklyn Heights, Plans Creative Office Conversion

Over the spring, a team of developers entered into contract to acquire, from the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the 11-story, 739,000-square-foot commercial complex known as the Watchtower, at 25-30 Columbia Heights, in Brooklyn Heights. The team – now a joint venture between the Kushner Companies, CIM Group, and LIVWRK – have closed on the purchase for roughly $340 million, Commercial Observer reported. The new owners plan to convert the complex into creative office space, likely similar to how some of the same developers transformed the five-building complex now dubbed DUMBO Heights. The redevelopment is expected to begin within a year. In addition to the acquisition of 25-30 Columbia Heights, the same partnership is remains in contract to buy the vacant, block-encompassing development site at 85 Jay Street, in DUMBO.

Landmarks Okays Gas Station-to-Restaurant Conversion at 14 Old Fulton Street

A small lot in Brooklyn’s Fulton Ferry Historic District is on its way to a change of use. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved changes that will allow the former gas station at 14 Old Fulton Street to become a restaurant.
